The Japanese have a saying: ‘we each have three faces: one that we show day to day, one that we show to our close friends/family and one that we never show anybody’- or words to that effect, at least.

You seldom have to look for long until you see seemingly strong willed and happy people, almost slip up and reveal their true face- like they’re masking the true nature of their circumstance, like there’s a cloud of sadness lingering above them.

Conversely, you could be walking along and notice someone looking deeply upset, their cloud close to producing rain, but just as you think they’re going to burst; an almost unnoticeable smile starts to make an appearance on their face and it’s like they’ve seen a beautiful sun rise.

We all carry a little damage in one way or another and it’s this very fact that makes us uniquely fascinating.
